Promicol was challenged to find a suitable test kit to analyze tomato purée using the Promicol system. The test procedure is very simple, easy to use and does not require any change in sample preparation. Since tomato-based products have a low pH, Promicol’s reagents are specially designed to cope with such acidic matrices.
The Promicol system and the Microbial ATP Detection Test Kit for Tomato-based Products are used to analyze all kind of tomato- based products, such as:
- Tomato purée
- Tomato paste
- Tomato sauce
- Tomato pulp
- Tomato juice
After incubating the tomato purée or other tomato-based product for a period of time between 1 and 4 days (depending on the specific product), homogenized product samples are aliquoted into microplate wells and the Promilite M4A instrument performs the assay automatically by using the appropriate protocol.
The reagents used for this assay ensure that non-microbial ATP is removed. The microbial extractant opens all kinds of microorganisms including yeasts, moulds and bacteria to release their ATP. The firefly enzyme converts this microbial ATP into light, which is measured by the Promilite M4A instrument and expressed in Relative Light Units (RLU). The software automatically performs the assay and classifies the measured values based on product-specific reference values and therefore enables an easy interpretation for the user.
- The Promicol system can process and automatically analyze the data from approximately 100 samples within 30 minutes, offering significant reductions in labor costs.
